Laser technologies

The IPL technology in comparison to the ruby laser (pulse duration 0.9 ms) in a study by Bjerring et al. (J. Cutan Laser Ther. 2000) was after 3 treatments 3.94 more effective.

Laser epilation

Presently longpulsed  Ruby-, Alexandrit- and diode lasers, 1064 nm-Nd:YAG-Laser and different IPL technologies are used. All are suitable for permanent hair removal. According to the US FDA (Food and Drug Association) "permanent" is defined as "more than three months" without additional epilation procedures.

Even though there is never an absolut freedom from hair and there is always new hair growth - independent from the type of laser. The reasons therefor are still unclear. Two amarican scientists (Jahoda und Reynolds, Lancet 2001) suggest that it is caused by cells in the tissue around a hair follicle which are considered precells to the hair papilla. These cells are also involved in wound healing and might as well regulate the hair growth.
